DC10 Closed For 12 Months and 300,000 Euro Fine!! :-(
Spanish authorities have ordered Ibiza club DC10 to close for a year and pay a fine of €300,000, for over-crowding and noise pollution.

The hugely popular after-hours venue was hit with the ruling just days before it was due to re-open after being closed for 57 days for drugs problems last year and now faces a hugely uncertain future, according to Ibiza-Voice.com.

“DC 10 can contest the decision, they have one month to do so. The club should then be able to open next weekend till the end of the season,” the Balearic nightlife portal explained.

“As previously mentioned the threat against DC10 is stronger then ever,” Ibiza-voice added, “Enjoy it, as it could be the last days of DC10 as we know it.”

Meanwhile, British house music organization Azuli thumbed their noses at Ibiza’s increasingly harsh club crackdown, issuing a triumphant press release this week boasting about getting away with hosting an unlicensed beach party they staged featuring Radio 1 top dog Pete Tong.

“Azuli’s secret beach party in Ibiza on 6th August was closed down by police before it had a chance to get started,” Azuli’s press release explained.

“However, in the true spirit of the best underground parties, Azuli refused to take the closure lying down. They packed up all the equipment and moved the entire party to a new secret location,” it added.

“The music, chilled Balearic from the legendary Jon Sa Trinxa, through to the latest electronic edged house from David Piccioni and Pete Tong, saw the party gradually move from a laid back, beach affair into a packed out, hands in the air, unforgettable party as the night progressed,” they added.

Azuli also promised to host another illegal party in the near future that will be ‘even more underground’.

The City council of Sant Josep notices that the new fine could promote this time to 600,000 Euros. The 9 of September the establishment will have to close. The spectacle of the weekend failed to fulfill the gauging EIVISSA | J. LL. FERRER illegal discotheque DC-10, in the highway of ses Salines, returned to the past fail to fulfill the maximum gauging allowed -68 people in their celebration of re-opening of weekend with the action of Crazy Circus, when allowing a massive concurrence of people and returning to tolerate the emission of noises to the outside; that is to say, the reasons that caused their closing during two months. For this reason, the City council of Sant Josep has initiated a new sanctioning investigation by the same infractions and that, according to explained the government team yesterday, this time in a fine of 600,000 Euros could culminate, that is to say, the double of already imposed the owner of this premises. Also, the DC-10 by another year could be closed more. The town councillor of Interior of the City council of Sant Josep, Paquita Ribas, was surprised by impunity whereupon the person in charge acts of this premises, but she noticed that the Corporation will apply without shades the effective norm to the DC-10. Friday, few hours after the order of closing of two months finished decreed by the delegation of the Government in the Pitiüses, the premises resumed its habitual activity. Nevertheless, the new order of closing dictated from the City council of Sant Josep will have to become effective as of day 9 of September, that is when a month is marked since it was notified. The closing will have to be carried out besides the resources that can interpose on the part of the property. If a precautionary suspension of the closing order is only asked for and the judge decides to accept it, the execution of the order could be postponed until the definitive sentence arrives. “It is Only a coffee-concert” Paquita Ribas insisted on which this establishment does not have authorization to work like discotheque nor to lodge to the amount of people that all the nights welcomes. “They only can work like coffee-concert, that is so they have permission”, it indicated the town councillor of Interior. Ribas added that, when fining to the DC-10 with 300,000 Euros, “we decided to begin with the lowest sanction, but is clear that if recidivism in the infraction takes place, the fine will be raising of considerable form”. The maximum one anticipated is of 600,000 Euros, besides a year of closing. The day of the re-opening, they were present in the effective environs of the premises of the Local Police, the Civil Guard and agents of countryman, according to indicated the City council, that it carries out a continuous monitoring of the premises.

That makes perfect sense Mags, never even crossed my mind before!

If it's one thing I've learnt over the last few days with police/councils/governments (who shut down a festival I was organising) is that it doesn't matter if you comply and even exceed what they want, do it all above board etc... if they want you closed down, they'll have you closed down.

The system has properly screwed me over this week.

dc10 is not in the way of anything and as far as i'm aware there is no noise problem either. matutes wanted it out the way of his golf course but that ain't getting built now anyway. i think it's all about power struggles and more importantly - propaganda.

searching fannys and bumholes is TRUE !!!!! and PROPERLY !!!! ask kate !!!

the government are total cunts, and its not just the english and all who visit who think so, i know lots bof spanish people who are getting pretty pissed off with it all aswell, there was a big protest in ibiza town on ath4 august (i think), and many ibiza residents want the current government kicked the fuck out....

they are ruining many small bars with all the new rules and crap they r comeing out with, fineing bars €1500 if a chair on ths 2cm over the line, same fine if u have a PR without a licence, which on its own costs 1500, and u r only aloud 1 licence per 7 contracted employees!! how r the small bars supposed 2 survive ??? the big clubs have no problem keeping up, as they have plenty of staff..

Fair enuf, all the wreckheads wondering the streets in the morning in front of parents and there kids is bang out of order and things should be done, but ive watched PR´s getting nicked, fined slapped around on the streets, while Prostitutes and ´Looky looky men´ r standing behind them selling drugs and whoring, and FUKALL gets done about it !!!! ive watched the local police come and have nice little chats with sum of the lookys !!!!

IBIZA is a party island,4 happy people and it should stay that way, but there is a select few that fuk it up 4 the rest of us...

They are getting tough with fines for posters and flyers in the wrong place too.

I guess the answer to that is just put the flyers and posters in the right place :-)

Also fines for unlicensed PRs too, although that I dont mind too much as I've always hated getting PR'd, I already know where I'm going OK!!

But Ibiza is still rocking, loads of great parties, great people and most important of all, lots of sunshine

I am not to sure what you could build at the foot of a runway.

No one would want to live directly under a flight path. Then again, people who purchased apartments near Bora Bora now want Space and the beach bar closed because of the noise. I suppose someone thinks they could build new flats on the DC10 site and once people move in the residents can try and get the runway closed.

....me thinks this is personal!!

Not at all. As I've stated before on this thread, it would suit me personally if nothing in Ibiza was changing, but I respect the residents' rights to think differently and for their wishes to be heeded ahead of mine.

Most of conjecture on here takes no notice of the facts and the basis of most of them is 'I liked DC10 therefore 'The Man' is a big nasty beast. Has anyone started a completely pointless I-petition yet?

That 200 people figure came an local Ibiza TV station (Tef) report.

How many do you reckon then B? (I presume you can vouch that I had no problems with DC10 when I was last there with you!)

400 hundred according this report, still very few from 100,000 or so permanent residents.

haha yes - you didn't seem to have a problem tolerating it!

i would have said about double that. it wasn't as useful as it could have been though as it appeared (to outsiders anyway) to be very much DC10 focused.

i see what you're saying about residents etc. but DC10 doesn't really directly affect that many people. the problem is that the hype is bigger than the club and that draws bad attention as well as good. as i've said before, for me it's all about propaganda - the more notorious the club, the bigger the scalp as far as the government are concerned.

they don't really understand though - they assume that the higher end tourists aren't interested in places like DC10 but they are. plenty of people have or rent villas & boats here, spend lots of money on the island, do all of the things that the government want them to do and still want to go clubbing to places like DC10.
i love the way people mix in ibiza - one of my favourite quotes is "the glamour goes on above the seediness like a red carpet over a sewer"

i honestly think this government are playing it wrong. there are a certain amount of people here that don't want the clubbing. they've already made their money from the tourists and now they just want to retire, relax, and enjoy the money they've made from property.

but

the rest of the island residents are people that are here for the whole package. the appeal for me is the mix of different european cultures and the amount of choice we have here (clubbing, history, architecture, gastronomy etc.). ibiza has always been about freedom of expression and freedom of choice and it would be a real shame if they succeeded in smothering some of that even if their meddling was only focused on clubbing.

there must be plenty of people who feel the same as i do.

DC10 is not the be all and end all - it's just a pawn in an unnecessary game.

A reasonable argument at last!

there must be plenty of people who feel the same as i do.

Possibly, but either they don't care enough to protest, or the march was only publicised to a minimal (ha ha) amount of people.
