For over a year, Hellbound has been a regular feature and event after Birmingham’s premier Hard Dance event Polysexual. There has been many occasion that clubbers have walked out of the door looking for somewhere else to continue their night and experience but possibly wanting it a little harder.
Just a stone’s throw away (if you have any strength left) is the home to one of Birmingham’s only Hard NRG events ‘Hellbound’. Showcasing some of the counties finest NRG DJ’s knocking out some seriously filthy beats.
-

Masterminded by Birmingham’s first lady of hard NRG, oops sorry I meant to say Man (apologies Shenton), Hellbound was born and created to air the true music for the harder generation with residents of the highest level of technical ability and skill.
However don’t be put off if Hard NRG is not you cup of tea as Shine will be controlling the upper deck bringing you a range of Classics from their resident’s pool. With all types of classics from trance, hard house to bounce this event will guarantee something for everyone. If you didn’t think that was enough to convince you that ‘Hellbound’ is the only after party and place to be after Polysexual, then to mark the anniversary of Tony De Vit’s death, Steve-NRG will be playing a two hour tribute set to the late Tony De Vit. Steve has been one of the very few to keep pushing and keeping the memory of the scenes’ creator alive. Over the years he has on occasion given clubbers the chance and a little idea of what they could have experienced had they had the chance to see him 10 years ago.

Hello Tony, Thank you for taking the time out for this, I can imagine with ‘Hell Bound’ happening on Sunday at Oc’s you’ve got a busy weekend ahead of you!!

Jamie: How long have you been part of the Music Industry? (Don’t worry Tony, you don’t have to tell us your age!)
Tony: I have been part of the industry since 1997, ‘Godskitchen’ being my very first experience and then Sundissential came in close second. I guess that makes me old but I’ve loved every minute so far!!
Jamie: So you’ve been promoting a fair few years then, what was it that got you into promoting?
Tony: Well, I guess it all started when I was asked to help out with a Rave, all those years ago. I also had the opportunity to help out with the household brand that is ‘Sundissential’ and this is when I got a real taste for the industry. From there, I worked with Clem & Maureen who organised an event called ‘One Love’ in Mansfield and I have just gone on to bigger and better things.
Jamie: What do you feel has been your greatest achievement whilst running and promoting events?
Tony: My greatest achievement is that I’m still going after all these years, I love to see everyone enjoying themselves and making people smile. After all, that is what clubbing is all about and as long as the clubbers are happy, I’m a happy bunny.

Jamie: You currently run ‘Shine’ which has been one of the only weekly Hard House events for a long time. This in itself seems an achievement but if there was any DJ at all you would like to put on, who would it be?
Tony: Well, I like to choose DJ’s for the clubbers, rather than for myself but it was an honor to have the legendary Andy Farley play for my birthday in March. As everyone who attended will know it was a fantastic day, Andy was indeed the icing on the cake - excuse the pun!
Jamie:After doing this for a good number of years, do you still see yourself in the scene promoting in 10 years time - or will it be pipe and slippers instead?
-
Tony: I can definitely still see myself in the industry in the future - it’s certainly hard work but I love it and for as long as I do, I’ll be here, pulling out all the stops for the clubbers.
Jamie: You must have seen many a funny thing during your time as a clubber and a promoter, can you tell us the funniest moment that sticks in your mind? Please don’t hold back!
Tony: Hmm, that’s a tricky one….I think it has got to be when Martin (FKM) turned up to Shine to play for the very first time wearing his mum’s dress, not forgetting the stockings and suspenders (I’m sure they were only to cover up his hairy legs!). Apart from finding this hilarious, I loved the fact that he’d gone to so much effort and didn’t care what anyone else thought. I must admit that having that type of personality was a big part in making him resident as he knows that DJing is still about having fun.
Jamie: You’ve seen many talented DJ’s grace the 1’s & 2’s of Shine - who do you tip to be a possible future star fighting off all the big boys?

Tony: Well, I would have to say ALL of the Shine resident DJ’s as I believe we’ve got the best talented DJ’s at the moment.
